In the heart of Chalais opposite the town hall is the hotel Maison Charles Maurice, a 19th century period building entirely renovated and offering six appointed bedrooms on 3 floors. The hotel taks its name from Charles-Maurice, Prince of Talleyrand-Périgord, a renowned historical figure in French history and owner of the imposing Chateau that dominates the village. Interiors are sober and refined, rich in natural materials and presented in a cameo of earthly hues, and a large period staircase takes you up to the four bedrooms and two suites. Original parquet floors and joinery have been renovated, giving an air of authenticity to the building and creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The bedrooms have been appointed with taste and comfort and a tinge of modernity. Room rates vary according to the season from 44€ a night per room. Breakfast is 8€ for a range of breads, pastries, cheese and ham, and seasonal fruits. The hotel also offers gift vouchers and make an ideal present. They cost 169€ which includes a weekend for two, comprising of two nights with breakfast, a welcome fully stocked fridge and a bottle of champagne!
